Lindstrom and Chisago City Police Departments Merged

1/31/2004

Newly Sworn Officers of the Lakes Area Police Department

January 1, 2004 marked a new era in law enforcement for the cities of Lindstrom and Chisago City.  Both cities Police Departments have merged to becomes one. All current full-time personnel have been retained. Chief Stenson of the Lindstrom Police Department is the Chief of Police of the new department and Chief Schlumbohm of the Chisago City Police Department has become Deputy Chief of Police.

The Department is currently located in the former Lindstrom Police Department Facility with an Office being maintained in Chisago City.  The New Department is called Lakes Area Police Department. On January 1, 2004 the Lakes Area Police will have 9 full-time Police Officers, a Deputy Chief and a Chief, which will allow the department to provide 24 hour - 7 days a week police coverage. Both Police Assistant positions were also retained, which will result in expanded coverage in a civilian support role.

These two cities certainly did not rush into this, in fact as far back as 25 years ago the concept was looked into. It has been looked at several times since then coming close to happening a couple of times but eventually falling apart. Lakes Area Police Department will be managed by a police commission made up of the mayors of each community one council member of each community and the city administrators of each community.
