Taylors Falls Bike Rodeo

By Chief Stenson
6/7/2009

On Wednesday 5-27-09 the Lakes Area Police Department held its annual bike rodeo in Taylors Falls at 3:40 PM. Over 25 riders participated which is more than last year. Chisago County Deputy Shane Carroll and St. Croix Falls Police Chief Jack Rydeen where on hand to assist with the rodeo safety check. Candy was given out at each station that was successfully completed. Dozens of Bike helmets were sold at $5 a piece by Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care staff and the Fairview Lakes staff helped with fitting the helmets. The weather cooperated although it was a bit cold and helmets were given away in a drawing by Lakes Area Police Department as well as a new Bike.  In the rodeo there was a Radar Run in which bicyclists could test their speed. Hand signals were tested as well as coordination. “It is all of our responsibility to teach youngsters about the rules of the road so they become safe riders” Said Brad Bourasa Rodeo Coordinator with Lakes Area Police, " Helmets are a must when riding a bike."

Lakes Area Police Department would like to thank Taylors Falls Principal Joe Thimm and staff for there ongoing support of the rodeo, as well as the following sponsors: Chain of Lakes Realty,  Lindstrom Arbys, Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care, St. Criox Regional Health Care, Mainstreet Bank, Lake Area Bank, Security State Bank of Marine, River Bank, and The Taylors Falls Chamber of Commerce.

Many of the supplies are provided by National Child Safety Council which in turn is supported by local area businesses.
